Having been a stay at home Mum of twins for the last two years, Kids TV 123 on you tube has helped me through many tough times (keeping one twin occupied whilst I helped the other one).  This song in particular is one my favorites and I have now (thanks to some help from farfar) identified the chords and learnt how to play it.

The song starts with A, then D, then E.  It is really easy to get into and very fun to sing.  I am looking forward to using it with my future students.  I am also planning on using it with the little puppet I have made as a way of introducing colours in English.

I almost managed to get through the recording without making a mistake until I said "green strawberries", I suppose they are a bit green when they aren't ripe ;)

I went into the English School this morning and planned the songs I am going to be teaching (to 90 children) as part of my field study are;

A nice mix :) Years 1, 2 and 3 will be learning them and then performing at their christmas avslutning.

Jack and the beanstalk is the story that the infants class will be putting music to.  It will be interesting to work with the younger years to see what they can come up with.

A very interesting discovery in the logical world off music theory.  Now I understand why holding the fifth string down on the string above the one I want to tune works.

Reflektioner

Det som jag tycker är väldigt intressant är hur lite jag kommer ihåg från mina musikundervisningar från skolan i England och vad detta kan bero på?  Tråkiga undervisningar?  Litet intresse från min sida?   I grundskolan lärde jag mig spela blockflöjt.  Jag hade också pianolektioner men det var privata och hade ingenting med skolan att göra.  Om det var min eller mina föräldrars önskan att jag skulle lära mig spela piano vet jag inte.  Jag älskade dock mina pianolektioner och jag nådde till och med ”grade 5” som är en ganska hög nivå.  Jag tycker att det är synd att skolan inte hade samma påverkan på mig med ett annan instrument eller lärt mig hur man kan skapa en låt.    

Under diskussionen pratade vi som grupp om att lära sig noter, en färdighet som ingen i gruppen har fått från skolan.  En sådan, grundläggande kunskap, som egentligen är ganska lätt att ta till sig, ska elever lära sig i skolan. I årskurs 1-3 står "musiksymboler, bilder och tecken" som mål och detta tolkar jag som noter och allt annat man behöver för att lära sig noter.  Man undrar vad man höll på med under 12 år av musiklektioner?  Jag önskar att jag kunde komma ihåg mer.

Det enda som jag kommer att tänka på är när vi gjorde en föreställning av musikalen "Grease".  Jag spelade Sandy och det var därför ett krav på mig att träna upp min sångröst - detta gjorde jag inte under skoltiden.  Eleverna som spelade musiken var kända som de "begåvade eleverna" och kunskapen hade kommit utifrån skolans ramar.  

Att konkretisera vilka mål barn kommer ha svårt att uppnå är ingen lätt uppgift.  Det beror på individen, hur mycket musik de har fått hemifrån och intressenivån.  Det som jag ser som mitt uppdrag som lärare är att ge mina elever ett lärande som är roligt och meningsfullt.  Det finns en hel del krav på barn här i Sverige men sådant är livet och jag tycker att både barn och vuxna ska ha utmaningar i livet.  En bra inställning jag har är att alla inte är "bäst" på allt, men vad spelar det för roll?  Livet är en fest och vi är bjudna, får jag mina elever att tänka likadant kommer de vilja lära sig musik, inte för betygets skull, utan för att det är kul!!!!  Betyget blir bara en bonus :)

Som blivande lärare vill jag, ifrån min musikkurs, ta konkreta exempel på uppgifter jag kan göra med elever som är åldersanpassade.  Just nu känner jag lite panik inför VFU uppgiften; att lära en barngrupp en låt. Hur gör jag det?  Hur hjälper jag de eleverna som inte kan sätta en ton?  Jag kommer jobba intensivt med mina röstövningar under helgen och efter det kanske jag känner lite mer självförtroende.

Ensemble and solo

So here are two sound clips, one with me singing and playing guitar (with Jeannette and Niclas) and the second one is me singing in an ensemble group.  I am really looking forward to hearing all of my groups' songs so that I can start practicing on all the instruments I need to play. This is going to be very interesting.  Thanks to, what must be hours of playing "Who Knew?", I can now play the C chord :)  Very, very happy about that. B7 and me are still not friends!

Group

A few more pictures from us singing as a group.  I really enjoy doing this and I find the lessons challenging.  The song "barfotavisan" has become my enemy who I am determined to befriend!  The C and B7 chords slow me down and I cannot play them without looking and placing my fingers one at a time.  Tobias (my teacher) has assured me that I will be able to do it eventually.  I am very much looking forward to that.  I had similar issues with the G chord in the beginning, that is coming much more naturally now.

Me and Niclas spent a lot of time practicing the Pink song "Who knew?". My plan is to have this as my ensemble song which I will have to sing as a solo.  It has 5 different chords, C, Em, Am, G och D which relatively fast changes.  The song itself is higher than I can sing at the moment which I can use to challenge myself during my singing lessons.

I had my first singing lesson today and over the weekend I am going to record my training (sound cloud you are also on my befriending list).  I am looking forward to seeing personal improvement.

Barfotavisan i grupp

Here is a recording and some pictures of us, as a group, singing and playing "barfotavisan".  The tempo of the group composition gives a much better result than when I played the song myself.  I will try and practice using a calmer to tempo to ensure smoother chord changes.
